As a parent, have you ever wished your child came with a "how to" manual? Or, perhaps you just long for a "trouble shooting guide" for when your child enters adolescence? If so, you are not alone! CY believes that parenting a child is one of the most difficult tasks there is in life. Requiring more than just a good sense of humor--although that is important--it takes real skill! For this reason, CY is working with our local PTO and FAP organizations to organize classes, workshops and speaker presentations designed to help parents improve their parenting skills. Staying Connecting With Your Teen CY- Connecting Youth In Chittenden South, is pleased to offer a five-week program to help parents of teens ages 12-17. Staying Connected With Your Teen is a science-based prevention program that helps parents develop positive family management skills and discipline practices. It also encourages parents and teens to work together to build the skills needed for teens to make healthy choices. If you are looking for ways to stay connected to your teen or have concerns about some of the issues they may be facing then this is the perfect course for you! This five-week course will be offered on Tuesdays at CVU High School, from 6:00-8:00 pm, beginning on October 21st, 2008. Dinner will be provided. The cost is $30 which includes a family workbook. Scholarships are available and child-care may be available upon request. Pre-registration is required and space is limited, so sign-up now! If you are interested in this course but have a difficult time committing to a five-week evening course please call for information on our take-home self-study program. For more details on either course or to register, please contact Jen Bickel-Hayes at 482-6951 or jbickel-hayes@cvuhs.org .
